Ukrainian Art Quilt
Michael Tichansky was a Dallas-based Ukrainian-American painter (and my brother-in-law) who died in 2024. Inspired by his grandmother’s richly-patterned textiles, Michael made contemporary art held in corporate and museum collections. I created this quilt, inspired by his complex visual language, for his wife. She loved it. The quilt is made of high-end linens and other new fabrics—nothing vintage or found at resale store—which is unusual for me. It has a pieced back, made from some of my failed experiments with the design.
