Yes Sweetie
This hand-sewn quilted art piece explores grief—from childhood loss to adult sorrows. While it began as a black field shot with red, a literal representation of violence and loss, it evolved to include a flower garden and fanciful images of connection, safety, and growth. Because grief includes everything, I used hand-made lace from my husband’s Iowa family, fabric from a skirt I bought in Barcelona, indigo-dyed fabric, and vegetable bag meshing. The quilt back is part of a hand-sewn quilt top made by the late Arkansas quilter Bobby McGehee, gifted to me by a friend of her daughter. This quilt was inspired by artist Zak Foster and his “Destroy this Quilt” project.
