Black X Log Cabin (2024)
I joined a sew-along using scrap fabric hosted by Lo and Behold Stitchery, following a quilting pattern for the first time. Doing a little research, I learned that the traditional Log Cabin quilt dates back to the Civil War. Sometimes a stop on the “underground railroad” was marked for people fleeing for their freedom with a log cabin quilt with black center squares hung on a clothesline. Inspired by this remarkable history, I chose center blocks that created an X to indicate: “It’s safe right here.” I used some vintage table cloth fabric for the back, keeping with the homey theme.
